  4. Undergo Due Diligence and Background Checks: Malta applies one of the world’s strictest due diligence processes. Approval is contingent on passing a thorough background check.
  5. Receive Letter of Approval: Once your application is approved, you receive a Letter of Approval in Principle, which outlines the steps you must complete to receive residency.
  6. Fulfill Investment Commitments: You will then need to fulfill all investment obligations, which include making the required government contribution, renting or purchasing a qualifying property in Malta, and donating to a registered Maltese NGO.
  7. Visit Malta and Submit Biometrics: The main applicant (and adult dependents) must visit Malta once to submit biometric data for residency card issuance.
  8. Receive Residency Cards: You and your family receive Malta permanent residence cards, valid for five years and renewable as long as investment obligations are maintained.

Your Trusted Guide To Global Residency

Our FAQ covers the most common questions you will need to know  about investing in an alternative residency or citizenship.

These are government-approved programs that allow individuals to obtain residency or citizenship in a country by making a qualifying investment. It’s a legal pathway to live, work, or travel more freely — often used for global mobility, asset protection, or lifestyle upgrades.

The required investment varies by country. Some start as low as €100,000 (e.g. in the Caribbean), while others like Portugal or Spain typically require €250,000 to €500,000 or more. Investment options may include real estate, government bonds, business creation, or donation models.

Depending on the country and program, you may receive:

  • Temporary or permanent residency
  • Citizenship (with or without a passport)
  • Access to healthcare, education, and other public services
  • Visa-free travel to specific regions (like the EU Schengen Zone or Caribbean)
Timelines vary:

  • Residency programs: 2–6 months on average
  • Citizenship programs: 4 months to 2 years

Some countries also offer fast-track options for higher investments.

Not always. Some countries require a minimum number of days per year (like Portugal), while others (like Malta or St. Kitts) have no residency requirements. This makes some programs ideal for global citizens or digital nomads.
