- Visa-free travel across the Schengen Zone (26 European countries).
- Lifetime permanent residency status for the main applicant and qualifying family members.
Requirements
- Open to non-EU/EEA/Swiss nationals.
- Must be at least 18 years old and have a clean criminal record.
- Must show proof of at least EUR 500,000 in capital (with at least EUR 150,000 in financial assets).
- Must make a government contribution of at least EUR 100,000.
- Must either rent a property (min. EUR 10,000/year in South Malta or Gozo, EUR 12,000 elsewhere) or purchase a property (min. EUR 300,000 in South Malta or Gozo, EUR 350,000 elsewhere).
- Must make a EUR 2,000 donation to a registered NGO in Malta.
Process
- Engage a Licensed Agent: All applications must be submitted through a licensed Maltese agent. They will guide you through the entire process and assist with document preparation.
- Gather Documents and Complete Application: Collect all supporting documents, including proof of wealth, identity, and family relationship. Your agent will help ensure they meet Maltese government requirements.
- Submit Application to Residency Malta Agency: Your licensed agent submits your application along with initial fees and documentation.
- Undergo Due Diligence and Background Checks: Malta applies one of the world’s strictest due diligence processes. Approval is contingent on passing a thorough background check.
- Receive Letter of Approval: Once your application is approved, you receive a Letter of Approval in Principle, which outlines the steps you must complete to receive residency.
- Fulfill Investment Commitments: You will then need to fulfill all investment obligations, which include making the required government contribution, renting or purchasing a qualifying property in Malta, and donating to a registered Maltese NGO.
- Visit Malta and Submit Biometrics: The main applicant (and adult dependents) must visit Malta once to submit biometric data for residency card issuance.
- Receive Residency Cards: You and your family receive Malta permanent residence cards, valid for five years and renewable as long as investment obligations are maintained.
